Artscape SELA
This project is a Cultural Art Center located on the same site as the SELA Cultural Center in Southeast Los Angeles. It provides spaces for people to learn, create, and experience arts and culture. The buildings are designed as sets, where structures share similar shapes but differ in how their edges are designed—some have straight, rectangular edges, others are curved, and some blend both styles. This creates varied and dynamic spaces.
The site’s natural slope allows for the inclusion of sunken plazas, which connect the LA River bike path to the buildings. Visitors can access some buildings from underground and others from ground level. Additionally, sunken buildings have walkable rooftops, adding more outdoor space and creating a layered experience with both underground and open-air areas. This design enhances accessibility and blends architecture with the landscape.
